George YandellThe Rev. George S. Yandell
Associate Rector
Calvary Episcopal Church
Memphis, TN

George Shaw Yandell came to Calvary Episcopal Church after having served two small congregations in Arkansas, Calvary in Osceola and St. Stephen in
Blytheville. He has also worked for the past five years as a consultant in process improvement and in
consumer research.

Born in Mobile, Alabama, and raised in Knoxville, George attended Emory University, where he earned a BA in Religion/Philosophy. After graduating from Virginia Theological Seminary in 1979, George
served as deacon assistant at the Church of the Holy Communion,
Memphis, for 10 months. George was ordained a priest in 1980, and
shortly thereafter was assigned as Vicar of St. James the Less,
Madison, Tennessee. In 1984 he was called as St. James' first Rector.

In 1985, George returned to the Church of the Holy Communion as an associate rector. For seven years he worked there as pastor,
community leader, spiritual advisor, program developer, youth minister and part-time chaplain for St. Mary's School.

In 1992, George accepted the call to be Rector of Good Shepherd
Church and Day School in North Dallas, Texas. While in Dallas, George was co-founder of the diocesan Peace and Justice Commission, and co-founder and president of the Visiting Clergy Association of Presbyterian Hospitals of Dallas. He was elected to the diocesan Executive Council and served on the diocesan Finance Committee. For 4 years, he served on the board of the Dallas chapter of the National Episcopal Clergy Association.
