O you who answer prayer! To you all flesh shall come.
—Psalm 65:2

As human beings we have an immense capacity for creativity, power and intellectual advance, and yet with all the potential and possibilities that stretch across our lives, we know that we do not have all the answers. We know that we have limitations.

We know that there is a place deep inside us that will always search for the One who does have the answers—who is without limitation. When we brush up against our human walls and find ourselves caged within a lair of uncertainty, fear, sickness, isolation, death—we cry out to God who is beyond it all.

We know that every human being will, at some point in their lives, cry out to the heavens—will pray to the God who transcends flesh. And, even when doubt continues to peek into our soul, we still know at an unconscious level that God will always answer our cry—our prayer.

It’s not really how God answers us that is important, but that God answers us. This alone assures us that we are never truly isolated. This alone assures us that our cages are not permanent. This alone assures us that in our sojourn on earth, we are never left forgotten like ash in the wind.

O God, my heart cries after you because only when I call out to you do I really accept my humanity.
