The Safeguards of Our Souls
" He that has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is
broken down, and without walls." - Proverbs 25:28

When life is charging forward at breakneck speed, it seems nearly impossible to have time to order and ground our souls. We find ourselves engaged in roles and responsibilities that demand not only our best effort, but also our greatest time and energy. We can go on for some time without giving attention to our souls, but the
risk is great and the cost high. We are left like a city without walls. Disillusionment and dismay, malaise and melancholy march in like soldiers and take control of the center of our lives, and we are left spiritually unbalanced, distorted, contorted.

Caring for our spiritual lives does require a measure of time and a dose of priority, but it only takes a simple practice, not heroic effort, in order to safeguard our souls. Try any of these:

Meditate for 10 minutes every morning, every night.

Awake with a prayer on your lips and speak to God when you close
your eyes in slumber.

Go to a church to give your soul companionship with a spiritual
community.

Write a letter to God every day.

Spend 30 minutes every day in nature and find yourself in God's
presence there.

A practice lived with regularity will not only keep your spiritual
life in balance, you'll also find you will feel the tenderness of
God and hear the whisper of heaven.

O God, let me find my rest in you.
