A recent arrival to Memphis from Brooklyn, NY, Michael (MA in Music, Queens College) has composed over 300 works for a wide assortment of ensembles including large band, string quartet, music for voice, music for solo instruments and numerous small jazz group compositions. In the summer of 2000, Mr. Stevens was the Margaret Lee Crofts Fellow at "The MacDowell Colony", has received numerous Meet the Composer Grants and was recently awarded 2nd prize in the prestigious Monaco International Jazz Composition Contest.

Mr. Stevens was on the faculty of Five Towns College between 1992-95, and was head of the keyboard department at the National Guitar Workshop between 1990-2002 in New Milford, CT. He has been guest clinician and artist in residence at numerous educational institutions both here and abroad with recent appearances at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) and the Indiana University (Bloomington). In the past 3 decades Mr. Stevens has released over 40 cds featuring his original music on such diverse record labels as Leo Records (England), Soul Note Records (Italy), Konnex Records (Germany) and Drimala Records (VA).
