The Right Reverend John Bryson Chane, 57, was consecrated as the Eighth Bishop of Washington on June 1, 2002 at Washington National Cathedral.

John Chane became dean of St. Paul's Cathedral, San Diego, California, in May of 1996 after having served previously from 1987 to 1996 as rector of St. Mark's Church, Southborough, Massachusetts; as canon pastor of St. Paul's Cathedral, Erie, Pennsylvania from 1975 to 1987; and as curate and priest-in-charge of St. Paul's Church, Montvale, New Jersey from 1972 to 1975. He holds degrees from Boston University (BA) and Yale Divinity School (M.Div).

He has appeared on KPBS Public Radio's The Lounge, ABC-TV's
San Diego Newsmakers, and regularly on the Fox News Network. He
also has been on ABC, CBS and NBC affiliate television news
programming in San Diego. He was a guest on "Crisis in the Presidency," a Town Hall Form moderated by Josh Mankowitz, and on a special three-part series, "Race in San Diego," an ABC-TV News Special produced in conjunction with San Diego magazine.
