  • Prayer for Soldiers

Gracious God, I pray for our soldiers. When they are lonely and afraid, and long to be with those whom they love, fill their hearts with the sure knowledge of your presence at all times, in war and peace.

    Questions of Faith and Doubt

What if I strongly disagree with the views of someone who professes to be a Christian?

We face challenges unknown to our ancestors, and we are called to bring the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bear on the problems and opportunities of our world.

    Fear Not
    Angelic being

Frequently in scripture, heavenly beings begin conversations with human beings with these words: "Fear not!" That imperative was always an invitation to react in a situation with faith, rather than with unhealthy fear.

There are many things to be afraid of in life. But none of those things ultimately matters. What does ultimately matter is that "nothing in life or death can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."

    from Dealing With Fear
    by Rod Spencer, M.Div. M.A.

    What Scares Us
Nobody lives without fear. No life is fully immune from the variety of fears that afflict and affect us all. Life is too unpredictable to remain stoic in every crisis. At any moment it can take that unexpected turn and leave us high and dry in some undeserved crisis or ill-begotten wilderness.

What scares you? Being lost? Being found? Being found out? Leaving home? Staying put? There is no life without fear; no faith, either, for that matter.

    Taking
Risks Taking Risks
How sad it would be for any one of us to come to the end of our lifetime and to look back and realize only then that we have failed to be courageous, that we have not dared to love fully or to live fully, that we have not dared to take risks, or to step forward into uncharted territory. But that we have lived instead a life of fear and hesitation, afraid to be open, afraid to be generous—with ourselves or with our abilities, with our wealth and even with our poverty.

    Fearing the Unknown
We are not impelled into new actions solely by the force of logic and experience. We are, finally, impelled into them by faith.

While we may not know the outcome of a course upon which we embark, we know this:

    • God accompanies us.
    • God does not leave us to figure it out alone.
    • God is prepared to bless and guide the courses we choose,
    • God longs to pour peace and serenity over our anxious souls when we must choose.
    • from Don't Know, Must Choose
      by Barbara Crafton
